How to find your first job in the UK
So you have decided to make the big move and come to live in the UK. You have gone through the bureaucracy of the paperwork for your visa (if outside the EEU), and have found somewhere to live and opened a bank account. Just one more thing….
You now need to find work in order to sustain your new life and experience in the UK.
If you are not aware of this already, you will need to apply for a national insurance number,
(N.I number). The UK national insurance number is a unique number which is allocated to you so that you are able to be taxed while working in the UK.
Note: You will not be able to work in the UK without having at least applied for an N.I number. You can find more information here at the official Gov.uk site here.
Ok, so you have an N.I number and are ready to start looking for work. This first thing that you need to have is a CV which is in the accepted UK format.
However, having a UK CV is simply not enough. You also need to consider;
· How are you going to find work in the UK?
· Where or what web sites will you use to find out about jobs and relevant information about working in the UK?
· What is the recruitment process like in the UK i.e. application forms, interviews, assessment centres etc?
· How do you ensure that you find the right job?
In the articles blow you will find guidelines on what to expect when job searching. You will also find out the best ways to prepare yourself for working in the UK and any barriers that you may encounter.
