If you are already in the UK or are planning to go, at some point you are, or will be considering working also. In the UK it is essential to have an up to date CV that displays all of your previous experiences and current knowledge. This should be written in perfect English, with no spelling mistakes and in a manner in which the reader is able to clearly see your skills relevant to the position that you are applying for.
Is a CV needed when applying to all jobs in the UK?
This is a frequent and at times confusing question to which the answer is, Yes and No!!
The issue of whether you need a CV when applying for work is highly dependent on the Job that you apply for, and the internal procedures of that particular Organisation.
There are a few different scenarios that you may encounter when applying for work as some companies will want;
· A CV accompanied by a Cover Letter
· A CV accompanied by a completed Application Form
· An application form
· All of the above
Basically it is impossible to know whether you will need to send your CV to an Employer so you should have an up to date CV in any case.
When and in what format do I send my CV?
This question is usually answered once you have fully read through the application process for the Vacancy that you are applying for. The majority of Employers in the UK that require your CV will want it sent in a digital format so make sure that it is in a document format that is accessible. It is more of a rarity but some Employers will prefer to have your CV in a paper format.
Regarding when Employers will require your CV, that is once again decided by them. They may only ask for an Application Form to be completed, but do not assume that they will not also ask for a CV. There have even been cases where Employers have asked for a CV after the interview stage so be aware.
